On April 24, 2025, Kansas Housing Resources Corporation (KHRC) participated in a ribbon cutting, along with developer, M.R. Builder, and other community partners on to celebrate the opening of United Village housing development in Dodge City. The event celebrated the ongoing development of 227 affordable homes, including 197 single-family homes, 25 townhomes, eight barndominiums, and 10 tiny homes. Layered funding for the project comes from the Rural Housing Incentive District (RHID) program and KHRC-administered Moderate Income Housing (MIH) funds and Kansas Housing Investor Tax Credits (KHITC). As of April 1, 2025, the construction of 92 homes have been completed, and 40 have been sold. Once finalized, the development will provide homes to support the newly expanded workforce at the Hilmar Cheese processing facility.
“We’re proud to help meet the housing needs of the people who keep this community running,” said Ric Marboeuf, Owner of M.R. Builder in an April 1 Dodge City press release about the event.
An MIH grant administered by KHRC funded the construction for 40 of the homes sold. This grant ensured an affordable purchase price for area working families, ranging from $197,00 to $232,000.
City Manager Nick Hernandez said in an April 1 Dodge City press release: “In many rural areas, large-scale housing projects like this don’t happen without true collaboration. United Village shows how Dodge City can lead the way in innovative housing solutions when state, local, and private partners work together.”
KHRC is committed to working with rural housing partners to accommodate our state’s housing needs. A 2021 Kansas Housing Needs Assessment estimated that 3,800 to 4,800 homes are needed annually in rural areas alone to meet the state’s ever-growing housing needs.
