They Saved the Old Landmark in Hutchinson

Hutchinson’s former 1920s Hotel Stamey, a Renaissance-Revial-style building was rebranded the Landmark Hotel in 1957 and converted into Landmark Apartments in the 1960s. By 2014, it was abandoned and left in disrepair. That all changed when Laura Meyer-Dick and her husband Michael purchased the building in 2022 and spearheaded its four-years-long renovation in memory of her father, Nation Meyer, who had a dream to enhance the economic development of downtown Hutchinson.

In July of 2026, a ribbon-cutting event celebrated Pomeroy Development’s completed renovation into 36 affordable homes, 24 of which are set aside for moderate-income families, thanks to a variety of funding sources, including state Moderate Income Housing (MIH) funds, Kansas Housing Investor Tax Credits (KHITC) and Revolving Loan Funds (RLF) administered by the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation (KHRC).

The historic renovation required that certain original elements remained intact, such as lobby’s original tile floor, which carefully removed during renovations and re-laid once construction was complete.
