Governor Kelly proclaims October Energy Action Month, designates October 30 Weatherization Day

Governor Laura Kelly joined Kansas Housing Resources Corporation (KHRC) staff and and community partners in proclaiming October Energy Action Month and October 30 Weatherization Day in Kansas. Energy Action Month is an annual campaign to raise awareness of the statewide Weatherization Assistance Program and encourage Kansans to reduce energy usage and save on utility bills as cold weather approaches.

Eligibility for the Weatherization Assistance program is based on household income relative to federal low-income guidelines. Applications are accepted year-round. Learn more and apply.

Weatherization reduces utility costs by improving energy efficiency while ensuring health and safety. Services are customized for each individual residence but may include:

  • Weather stripping
  • Caulking around doors and windows and other air leaks
  • Repair or replace inefficient or dangerous furnaces
  • Adding insulation to walls, ceilings, and floors
  • Lighting and ventilation upgrades
