Show Off Your Service! Project Proposal

Registered attendees of the 2024 Kansas Housing Conference, including sponsors and exhibitors, are invited to  submit their best idea for a housing-related public service project to benefit a designated housing organization. One organization will be chosen to receive the Show Off Your Service! award. Entries must be received by July 10, 2024.

KHRC staff will score submissions based on the criteria below and announce the finalists prior to the Kansas Housing Conference. All finalists will be invited to present their ideas during a breakout session before final voting. The winning proposal will receive a $2,000 award to fund their initiative, sponsored by Kansas Bankers Association.

Examples of how $2,000 could be used to fund housing-related public service projects:

  • Providing computer/internet access for community members to apply for services
  • Purchasing shelter supplies
  • Training staff
  • Light maintenance/rehabilitation of common spaces (painting/furnishing a drop-in or common room, lawn care for community properties, etc.)
  • Providing basic supplies, furnishings for new residents/guests (dishes, linens, household/cleaning products, groceries, etc.)
  • Providing community services or resources such as garden beds for residents, workshops on how to access public services, language training, etc.
Finalists will be scored on the following criteria:
  • Innovation – 20%
  • Project sustainability – 20%
  • Impact on the community – 20%
  • Direct connection to housing – 20%
  • Ease of implementation and achievability – 20%
Submission Guidelines:
  • Only registered attendees, sponsors, and exhibitors may submit proposals. KHRC staff are not eligible.
  • Submissions must be received by July 10, 2024.
  • Entry limit of one proposal per attendee.
  • Each entry must have a sponsoring and beneficiary organization. The sponsoring and beneficiary organization may be the same–that is, attendees may submit a proposal for a project that benefits their own organization. Each sponsoring organization is limited to one entry, even if the sponsoring organization registers multiple attendees for the conference.
  • The beneficiary organization must be located in Kansas and serve Kansas citizens.
  • Previous Show Off Your Service winners are ineligible to apply for one year following their award.

Depending on the number of entries, KHRC staff will select the top project proposals. Finalists will be invited to present their project proposals in a breakout session. Finalists’ proposal summaries will also be featured on the conference app. The winner will be announced and presented with a $2,000 check at the lunch plenary session on Wednesday, August 21.

Presentation guidelines will be shared after finalists are selected.
