Officials break ground at Orchard Ridge development in Hillsboro

Kansas Housing Resources (KHRC) Housing Development Director, Deanne Engstrom, attended the groundbreaking of Orchard Ridge in Hillsboro, KS in July. This new construction built by Mennonite Housing, is a 24-unit Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) and Kansas Affordable Housing Tas Credit (KAHTC) development. The project is also made possible through federal HOME funds and the National Housing Trust Fund (NHTF).

The development will utilize the income average set-aside with 24 units restricted to households earning 30, 50, 60, and 80 percent of the AMI and below. The project will consist of 8 two-bedroom and 16 three-bedroom units within single story, duplex buildings with attached garages.  President and CEO of Mennonite Housing, Byron Adrian, and Kansas State Senator Michael Fagg also attended the event.

Future tenants “can’t wait for this much-needed housing to open up. The waiting list is nearly full,” Engstrom said. “Sometimes it takes those moments to really absorb the importance of our roles at KHRC and how they impact our fellow Kansans.”
